Providence Doctrine

  • Section One: We believe that the original autographs of the Scriptures (comprising all of the 66 books of the Old and New Testament) were verbally inspired by God the Holy Spirit and were the product of Spirit-controlled men. We believe that Scripture, having been given by divine inspiration, is infallible and without error. We believe the Bible to be the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinion shall be tried. 2 Timothy 2:15; 3:16; 2 Peter 1:19-21; Hebrews 4:12

Section Two: We believe there is one and only living and true God; inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices. Genesis 1:1; Exodus 20:2-3; John 10:30, 37-38; 1 Corinthians 8:4-6; 1 John 5:7; Revelation 4:11

  • Section Three: We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by God, conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born to the virgin Mary; freely taking upon Himself the nature of man, yet without sin, and by His death made a full and substitutionary sacrifice for our sins. Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:35; 1 Peter 1:18-19

  • Section Four: We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine Person, and of the same nature with God the Father and God the Son; that He convicts men of sin, of righteousness and of judgement; that He convinces men of the truth of the Gospel; that He is the agent of the new birth; that He seals, empowers, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies and helps the believer. Matthew 28:19; Luke 1:35; John 14:16-17, 26; Romans 8:14, 16, 26-27; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19-20; Ephesians 4:30

  • Section Five: We believe that man is a direct creation of God; that man was created in the image of God, sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but spiritual death which separated him from God; that all human beings are born spiritually dead with a sinful nature. Genesis 1,2: 3:1-6, 24; Psalm 51:5; John 1:3; 3:16-19; 5:24; Romans 1:18, 32; 3:19; 5:10-19; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; Colossians 1:16-17; Titus 3:5-6

  • Section Six: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sin; that all who believe in Him are justified on the basis of His death. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, His ascension into heaven, and His present life there as High Priest and Advocate for us. John 3:16; 20; Romans 2:24-25; 1 Corinthians 15:1-49; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 2:7; Hebrews 2:14, 17; 4:15-16; 10:1-18

  • Section Seven: We believe that in order to be saved, sinners must be born again; that the new birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus; that it is instantaneous and not a process; that in the new birth the one dead in trespasses and in sins is made a partaker of the divine nature and receives eternal life, the free gift of God; that the new creation is brought about by our sovereign God in a manner above our comprehension, solely by the power of the Holy Spirit in connection with divine truth, so as to secure our voluntary obedience to the gospel; that its proper evidence appears in the holy fruits of repentance, faith and newness of life. John 3:3,8; Acts 16:20-33; Romans 6:23; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:1,5; Colossians 2:13; 2 Peter 1:4; 1 John 5:1

  • Section Eight: We believe in bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost. The saved experiences everlasting joy in heaven; the lost experience conscious suffering in hell. Matthew 25:41; John 5:28-29; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:11-15, 21; 21:1-8

  • Section Nine: We believe in the personal, visible and imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ. John 14:1-3; 1 Corinthians 15:50-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 19:11-21.

  • Section Ten: We believe tht the local church is comprised of believers associated by the same faith; observing the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper; governed by the Scriptures; and exercising the gifts and privileges vested in them by the Holy Spirit and the Word. Acts 2:38-42; 15:1318; 20:17-28; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Ephesians 1:22-23; 4:11; 5:23-24; Colossians 1:18

  • Section Eleven: We believe that civil government is of divine design for the interests and good order of human society; that governmental leaders are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored and obeyed, except in things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 4:18-20; 5:29; Romans 13:1-7; 1 Peter 2:13-17

  • Section Twelve: We believe in the existence of a personal devil; that he is in opposition to the purposes of God; that he is continually working in the world to keep men from God; and that he and all his angels and all who do not receive Christ as their Savior will eternally perish in the lake of fire. Isaiah 14:12-16; Matthew 4:1-3; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 6:12; Revelation 20:10
